A few of the things our Post is involved in.
The Department of Veterans Affairs, Vet Center, and our Post have partnered to bring to military combat veteran services on a more local basis.
The Avenue of Flags is a program where individuals or business's pay $30.00 a year for our Post to put up flags on selected holidays, this money is used to help with programs for the Boy Scouts in Atoka and maintenance of the flags.
During our VA Volunteer visits, we distribute refreshments to all hospitalized veterans, their visiting families and veterans seeking medical attention through outpatient services. This is done on the second and fourth Fridays of each month. In December we participate in the Christmas Parade at the VA Medical Center were we hand out presents to the inpatients.
The Post sends high school students to American Legion Boys State. Boys State is not a school-room activity, but a practical experience for young men in the actual working of government. Tennessee's American Legion Boys State is held on the beautiful Tennessee Tech University campus in Cookeville.
On Memorial Day our members gather to honor the memory of our fallen veterans. They take flags out to the different cemeteries in Tipton County and place a flag on each veteran's grave.
Our post also hosts a high school oratorical contest. This contest is to develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation of the Constitution of the United States by high school students.
